The Curse of Salt
The Curse of Salt is an illustrated essay based on a series of paintings about salt intrusion in Eastern North Carolina, specifically in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. The images are paintings based on photographs, ephemera, and observations collected in the field by the author. This illustrated essay weaves together personal observations with a short history of Buffalo City, ghost forests, highway 64, and this region with imagery to create a testimonial about the consequences of human actions and the Anthropocene on the coast of Eastern North Carolina.
